MIT’s first ever Cricket League is finding its way to us. The League has established itself as a beginning of a new era in MIT, in the field of cricket.
The Inauguration
The 8th of October’16 witnessed the inaugural ceremony of the League. The players, the captains, their managers and the crew of the league, all dressed in formals, marched their way into the Library Auditorium around 6:30pm.
It is often believed that a felicitous occasion should be dawned by invoking the blessings of the Almighty. And with that in mind, the onset of the evening was marked by the lighting of the lamp.
Our Director, Dr. Gopalkrishna Prabhu, Joint Director, Dr B H Venkataram Pai, Director of Physical Education and Sports Advisor were few of the many dignitaries who graced the event with their presence.
The immense amount of hard work and perseverance that led to this success was under the guidance of Shubh Patodi, Founder of the MIT Football League, the captain of the MIT cricket team and the Student Council President. The MITCL crew expressed their gratitude by felicitating them.
At the ceremony’s peak hour, the director, Dr G.K. Prabhu took to the stage, voicing his support and encouragement. It was only after much deliberation and debate, that this League came to life and its success story has left him spellbound.
His quote, “It is not about the sports; it is about sportsmanship”, resulted the gathering to burst into a loud round of applause.

With his fellow crew members, he presented a vivid slideshow describing the basic rules and regulations, the prize money and other aspects, in a detailed manner.
Q&A
Q: Why was there no plan in including the other colleges of Manipal University?
A: No doubt, there is a lot of talent present in the other colleges but this being our novice league, we decided to restrict our expansion.
From the next cricket league onwards, we’re ready to incorporate other colleges.
Q: Who are the sponsors?
A: Brands like Dominos are sponsoring us at the moment and we’re definitely looking for more to establish ourselves in a secure way.
Q: What is expected from MITCL to achieve?
A: MIT houses a great number of cricket frenzy sportspersons. The MIT cricket team was not sufficient to represent the talent of such a great number. Thus, this league happened. We’re resolute to look for talents, give them a platform to dream big and transform their wishes into reality.
A five-minute chat with the team captains revealed their intensity and their absolute tenacity to lead their respective teams to the finals.
“There may be people that have more talent than you, but there’s no excuse for anyone to work harder than you.”
-Derek Jeter
With this sentiment, the proceedings were brought to an end. We wish to see this league become bigger and better with each passing year and for it to shine as a beacon for all the cricket fanatics in MIT.
